How Air Pollution looks like

Do you want to see how Air Pollution looks like?

Here are two pics of the Air Pollution of Athens that was trapped in our HEPA Air filter in the past six months – left is the old filter, right the new one that we changed today.

We use these Air Filters to keep the Air inside our home clean.

We consider these filters a life-saving appliance that we all should have in our homes in Greece, because Air Pollution is really too high in this country.

Over 16.000 Greeks die every year due to Air Pollution, 2 people every hour.

All that black dust trapped in the old filter (which is what is called Particulate Matter, or PM2,5 and PM10) would have gone into our lungs, right inside our very home where we like to think that we are safe.

But in terms of Air Pollution, we are not safe even inside our home.

In fact, sadly, even with the windows closed, outdoor Air Pollution enters your home if you don’t have a totally air-tight home. Hence, even when you are closed inside, you are still breathing outdoor Air Pollution.

Our lungs are very happy to have been spared all that nasty gunk over these past 6 months!

PS. None of us smokes. All that Air Pollution is made up by wood/heating oil smoke and vehicle exhaust.
